Why FHOF GI?
Many reasons: the welcoming and collegial faculty and fellows with a family-like feel, wide breadth of clinical conditions and exposure to numerous institutions, and who doesn’t like a Chicago winter?

In an attempt to be cool, I collected over 400 PEZ Dispensers from my childhood into my twenties.

HARDEEP AHDI, DO
My interview experience said it all. I wanted to be a part of a program that fostered a supportive and collegial environment amongst medical students, residents, co-fellows, and teaching faculty. I am thankful to be in a position to see a wide array of GI pathology, gain valuable endoscopy experience, and have the ability to rotate at neighboring Chicago hospital sites.

I wanted to join a program that offers the opportunity to explore various subspecialties alongside leaders in each field. The high procedure volume will undoubtedly prepare for my future career. The support and camaraderie here are unmatched, truly embodying what it means when a program says they are a family.

ZAHRA DOSSAJI, DO
I wanted to join a program that offers a strong balance of academic rigor, procedural training, and close-knit relationships. The program provides a breadth of pathology, from complex tertiary cases to community-based disease management. What stood out to me the most was the culture of collaboration among faculty, fellows, and trainees, as well as the commitment to teaching Gastrointestinal pathology and endoscopy using evidence-based medicine and patient-centered care.

Fun Fact:
I grew up in Hong Kong and moved to the United States when I was 10. In my free time, I enjoy exploring Chicago, trying out new restaurants, and hanging out with my husband and baby.
DEXTER NWACHUKWU, DO
I was drawn to Franciscan Health Olympia Fields because of its strong academics, procedural exposure and sense of community. From my first exposure to the program, it was clear that this is a program where fellows are supported in becoming thoughtful, skilled, and compassionate gastroenterologists. The diversity of pathology, exposure to advanced procedures and various GI electives create an ideal environment for growth and training.

Bio: I am a recent arrival to graduate medical education, having spent twelve years in undergraduate medical education where I held various positions from academic skills specialist to Assistant and Associate Dean for Curriculum at the University of Illinois, Urbana and Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Pennsylvania. I am fascinated with the complexity of graduate medical education and am excited to see medical students transition to physicians.
